Psychiatry - Child & Adolescent
Delaware & Colorado
Thoughtful, compassionate, bilingual psychiatrist with deep roots in advocacy, neurodiversity, and whole-person care. Known for sharp clinical insight, authentic connections, and unwavering commitment to children and families

I’m a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child and adolescent care. With over 15 years of experience, I’ve worked with children from all walks of life—including those navigating neurodevelopmental differences, trauma, foster care, language barriers, and systemic injustice. I offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and collaborative care that honors each child’s individuality and potential.

What sets my work apart is simple: I listen deeply, think carefully, and partner with families to create treatment plans that are both practical and grounded in empathy. My patients are never “cases”—they’re kids. Complex, creative, resilient, and deserving of care that truly sees them.

My philosophy is rooted in developmental attunement and equity. I strive to create a safe, respectful space where children and teens feel understood—and where parents and caregivers are supported as vital allies in the healing process.

At MindCraft Health, we believe in psychiatry that isn’t rushed, reductive, or cold. We reject the conveyor belt model of care, instead prioritizing authentic relationships, diagnostic clarity, and nuanced understanding of each individual’s emotional, cognitive, and social world. If your child is struggling, you don’t just need a prescription—you need a partner. That’s where I come in.

Whether your family is navigating ADHD, anxiety, autism, depression, trauma, or simply trying to make sense of a complex behavioral or developmental picture, I’m here to help.

About Me

Rachel Powers, MD

Listening. Advocacy. Insight.

I’m a board-certified psychiatrist with subspecialty training in child and adolescent psychiatry. Over the years, I’ve worked in outpatient clinics, community health centers, private practice, and school-based settings—serving kids and families in Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania, and beyond.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the honor of supporting children in foster care, multilingual households, LGBTQ+ youth, and kids with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These experiences have deepened my belief that psychiatry must be human-centered, trauma-informed, and anchored in justice.

My clinical style is warm, collaborative, and rooted in curiosity. I bring a calm, grounded presence to the room and take time to truly understand each child’s internal world—their strengths, their struggles, and the story behind the symptoms. Parents often tell me that they feel relieved to finally have someone who listens, asks the right questions, and takes the full picture into account.

Experience and Expertise

Psychiatry for Children, Teens, and Families

I specialize in psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and young adults, with particular experience in:

  • Anxiety and mood disorders
  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges
  • Autism spectrum and neurodivergence
  • Developmental disabilities and learning differences
  • Trauma, attachment disruption, and foster/adoptive care
  • LGBTQ+ affirming care
  • Complex diagnostic clarification and second opinions

Medication is one tool I use thoughtfully and collaboratively—always considering developmental context, family goals, and long-term wellbeing. Many of my patients come to me after years of trial-and-error treatment, and I’m known for my ability to simplify and optimize medication regimens with clarity and care.

Therapeutic Approach

While I provide medication management, my work always includes a therapeutic lens. I draw from evidence-based, developmentally appropriate frameworks to support both children and families, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Supportive psychotherapy
  • Parent guidance and family systems approaches
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Strengths-based developmental models

As a bilingual psychiatrist (Spanish / English) with additional conversational skills in French and Italian, I welcome patients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Every child’s story matters—and I take the time to understand it in full color.

Education & Training

  • Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship – University of Florida (Chief Fellow, Ralph Maurer Award for Excellence)
  • General Psychiatry Residency – Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia
  • Doctor of Medicine – University of Florida College of Medicine
  • Bachelor of Arts in French, Magna Cum Laude – Florida International University

Beyond the Clinic

When I’m not working with patients, I’m outdoors, painting, learning languages, or spending time with my family. My journey as a physician has always been fueled by curiosity, compassion, and a deep belief in the transformative power of advocacy—especially for those who are too often unheard.

At MindCraft, I’ve found a home that aligns with my values: a place where psychiatry is practiced with integrity, curiosity, and fierce respect for human dignity. It’s a privilege to walk alongside families on the path to healing.
